On Independence & Quality.

“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.”

Henry Ford

How we choose to act when nobody is looking is who we really are. It is easy to have self-control and to hold yourself up to a certain standard when you have someone breathing down your neck, but this limits your value as an individual. If you need someone looking at you to do the job right, this means that this other person captures some of your value.

However, if you can be as independent as possible and still maintain high standards, you will start to gain a reputation as someone who can be trusted with the details, even when someone is not looking.

That’s real value, being able to deliver results without someone having to check everything you’re doing.
